[i]ubiquitousadh: Talkin' 'Bout Her Generation

I think I am posting this in three places. Weird.

Had an interesting discussion last night. I realize I am a young parent as far as parents of 12 year old go. But have you noticed that our children have nothing to offend us with, really?

No flappers, no devil music (I mean...rock and roll, ELVIS, that Beatles crap all the way to Public Enemy and NWA? Hell. We've got CWA! And while my kid's music may be "offensive"...I can listen to Pink, Hannee Montanee, Kelly Clarkson...even the damn Jonas Brothers have some catchy shit. Is "I Kissed a Girl" supposed to freak me out? Jill sobule did that in 1995. Yes. It was that long ago. I've covered that song.

Leather pants? Eyeliner? Been done.

Promiscuity? I dare you.

80s. 90s. Uh huh. Go for it.

Video games/Internet? Now here's where it gets a little sketchy for Amythest because I'm a younger mom as far as her heading in to the 7th grade is concerned. Most parent's with 12-year-olds are 40. Ish. No, really. KoLers might be an exception as far as both parenthood and the way this WORKS but hang with me. 40-year-old parents just don't, as a rule, have any fucking idea how this pretty silver box WORKS. And most people suck as parents these days. Suck it. It's true. That's how come 13-year-old Brandy Sucksadick gets to lie and say she's 19 and put her tits on myspace and no one knows until she gets raped at the Motel 6 by the four guys she met there at 3am and no one even knew she had Internet friends. ... OK?

Anyway.

What are our kids gonna do? Put on silver pants, get mohawks and rock out to some space age shit? Yeah. We might have been FAKING it but we already did that.

Are we the first generation to be completely unshocked by pretty much anything our children have done/can do/might do/say/dress like/listen to and what the hell does that mean?

[i]tommytoony: Morning Musical Log - Vol. 441

In light of what has happened and the stories surrounding his passing, this previously overlooked track (in which MJ does his best Trent Reznor/nine inch nails imitation) takes on a whole new meaning...and becomes a lot creepier.

Michael Jackson - "Morphine"

[i]claire_fontaine: A handful (OK, five) things about me.

1. I keep a one sentence journal. Every day I make myself write one sentence in it. Sometimes I write more, sometimes one sentence is a struggle.
2. One of my favourite places to be is in my big, tall bed.
3. I love my family more than I tell them.
4. Food is one of my favourite things. I am lucky to have bandmates who share this passion for eating.
5. I have started to make my own luck.

[i]gazehound: Work and Marketing and...

Ok. So it's been forever since I've posted here. I seriously just forget to check, now that it's not my homepage - my bad. I have, since last posting:
- been to, and came back from Tanzania (which was a marvelous trip in Jan.)
- driven to CA to get my Rhodesian Ridgeback pregnant (late March/early April)
- attended the Borzoi and Rhodesian Ridgeback National Specialties (both in May in Michigan)
- had a booth selling my photography & some African textiles at the Ridgeback National (late May & it was very successful)
- had puppies from my Ridgeback via the most expensive c-section EVER! (first of June - only 2, both boys so we'll be doing this again...)
- finally back at work on a regular basis since mid-May!

And it's on that last note that I want to post here today...see - I'm hoping to connect with friends in different areas in order to plan some marketing trips...where I get to stay with friends, catch up on things, AND meet up with the right people in the right shops for a marketing tour I want to do!

Here's the deal: I work with a gem carver and I've taken close up photos of some of her stones - we focused on gems that happened to be the 7 colors of the chakras + 1 that we called Nirvana. We have fine art prints and notecards made from them but I'm going to be getting the images onto printed products. I am going to be doing marketing trips that connect me with: yoga studios, metaphysical bookstores, gay/lesbian stores and anywhere else that may be interested in brilliantly colored (and textured) images printed upon objects such as: fancy boxes w/ the images on tile set into them; cafe tables (images on glass as the tops); cutting boards (glass); wine boxes (image on front panel); garden flags; decorative tiles (of varying sizes); and of course coffee mugs. We may also offer messenger bags, backpacks and/or purses where the image is on a flap that can be removed and replaced (so you'd have a messenger bag/backpack/purse with 8 different colors as possiblities for the front flap) - but I'm not sure of that quite yet. We will also be offering for folks to carry the boxed notecards and the fine art prints as well.

The images that the objects will have on them can be found either at my portfolio site (http://portfolio.akanni.com) under "gemscapes fine art prints/chakra series - the printed objects won't have the strip at the bottom that the art prints do...or at the site of the woman I work with (http://www.gemscapes.com) under "see/prints" and either of the thumbnails (one will go to the fine art prints, one will go to the notecards - clicking on thumbnails there will get you detailed imagery)

Right now I'm planning on SLC in October (Nyxie-poo, the doll, says she'll help connect me with some people there, but if you have other connections that would be good, let me know!). I'm hoping to do Atlanta GA sometime this fall or winter (Hi Sue! Can you help me here?), Eugene OR maybe this fall or winter (Bruce you're going to get Icky to help with connections, right?), San Fransisco CA (my friend Parry can help with some contacts but if you can help me here, let me know!) and of course around the Detroit area...

I hope to also get to: Phoenix AZ (have a couple of people to get in touch with to see if they can help with contacts...but any help here is great); Seattle WA (Anthea? Sara? do you guys know the right sorts?); Denver CO (Holly? Inger? hoping to get contacts there, maybe you guys can help); New Orleans LA (so far have an offer of help there from Juli, but I know some of you guys may be able to help too); Austin TX (have an offer of help from Benson, who will be great, but other help with contacts is always welcome)...

If you can help with contacts in your area, please let me know! If I can crash on your couch during a trip, please let me know!

I'm really excited about this project and I know that my friends around the country are amazing and wonderful at knowing the right people...so here it is, kids - can ya help a girl out?
